May Citrus Lane Review

IMG_6026

Citrus Lane is a monthly subscription box for kids. Mine is for a 2 yr old girl. Normally I really like Citrus Lane but this month I was a bit disappointed in the products. Usually Citrus Lane products are right on target for her age but this box seemed like it would be better suited to a slightly older kid. I didn’t take individual pictures but here is a description of each product.

Mayan Pyramid & Parthenon Sand Molds – My daughter loves to play in the sand box but she didn’t really understand how to use these yet. They do make interesting shapes and as she gets older she will probably get more use out of them.

Goodbyn Food Container – I have not tried this yet but I’m sure it will be useful on picnics or long outings.

Paint with Water by Melissa & Doug – This seemed like a fun idea so we tried it right away. She did not get the concept of dipping in the water then the paint and then the paper. She kept just dipping in the water and trying to paint the paper. This just mostly frustrated her I think. It also says on the packet for ages 3+ so I will save this for when she gets a bit older.

Fresh Feet Wipes – We have not tried these yet but I am always in favor of more wipes.

Back to Nature Chocolate Chip Cookies – This was just an average snack. It was relatively good tasting and free of hydrogenated oils which is always a plus.

Overall this was not my favorite month of Citrus Lane. The toys were not geared to her age as much as I would’ve preferred. We’ll see what they come up with for next month. Hopefully it will be better.

May Yumvelope Subscription Box Review

IMG_6024

This is my third yumvelope box and I think that this has been the best one. There were 7 items in it.

Nina’s Fresh Baked Pecan Cherry Granola – I’m getting a bit bored of granola but this one was at least quite tasty.

Organically Grown Pistachios – These came still in the shell but I like pistachios and it was nice to have something different than almonds.

Ella’s Heavenly Hunks – This bag had two cookies in it and they were absolutely delicious. The first ingredient was butter so how could they not be. I would eat these again.

Alo Appeal Pink Grapefruit Aloe drink – I did not like this and did not finish it. However it was interesting to try as drinking aloe has been the “in” thing lately.

Nature’s Bakery Whole Wheat Fig Bars – There were two of these. One in lemon and one in strawberry. They had a good flavor and the fruit taste was nice and tart.

Morning Sunshine Breakfast Cookie – These were just ok for me. I gave most of it to my toddler though and she liked it.

Yumvelope is a great way to try new products and I enjoyed this months box. Especially the Ella’s Heavenly Cookie Hunks.

Lush Beauty Products Review (Round 1)

I’ve been seeing a lot of reviews about Lush products on the blogs lately and so I wanted to try them out for myself. With product names like shower smoothies and bath bombs I couldn’t resist. There are no lush stores nearby me and so I ordered online. It ships from Canada and took forever to get to me. I ordered mostly bath stuff this round. I ordered six items and received one small sample.

IMG_6022

I’ll review each product one by one. First is the FUN bath soap designed for kids.

IMG_6019

It’s a fairly big size and so for my toddler I’ve been breaking it off and giving it to her in small amounts to play with. The consistency is sort of a cross between playdoh and clay. You can mold it and shape it or you can crumble it under the faucet to make bubbles. And depending on how much you use it will turn the bath water blue. This comes in other colors as well. My daughter liked this as something new to play with in the tub but she isn’t at the age yet where she can really shape it or do much with it. It’s probably more designed for older kids. It was fun to try out but I probably won’t purchase it again.

IMG_6013

Dreamtime Bath Melt – I loved this. It just melts in the tub and makes the water very soft. It has a lavender fragrance which I found very relaxing. This was my favorite item of what I bought.

IMG_6014

Secret Garden Bath Bomb – This bath fizzer lasted a long time and has a pleasant scent. However it contained flower petals which end up floating in the bath. It seems like a good idea but in practice you just have all this debris floating around in the tub. It was interesting to try but I wouldn’t get this again.

IMG_6016

Butterball Bath Bomb – This is another bath fizzy which thankfully didn’t have any debris in it. However it was overall a disappointment because it made the water feel too greasy for my liking and the scent was just so so. I was expecting something more vanilla-y. And for the cost I am expecting to be wowed and this was not wow.

IMG_6017

The label got worn off a little but this is the Big Blue Bath Bomb. The labels only list ingredients so if you want to know how to use a product you have to go back to the website. And while they say their bath bombs may contain “surprises” they don’t say exactly what. This bomb was the biggest of all the bombs I had and it lasted a long time in the tub. And one of the reasons it’s so big is because it contains seaweed. A lot of seaweed. You end up with all this black rubbery debris in the rub. I liked the scent and I liked that it turned the water a pretty greenish blue but I did not care for all the debris. If you use this one I recommend that it be kept in some sort of mesh bag or something to keep the debris contained.

IMG_6018

Yuzu & Coco Bubbleroon – This is a solid bubble bath that you crumble under the faucet as you fill up the tub. I broke it into two bath uses but you could probably cut it into four. This scent was just ok for me and while it did make nice bubbles I still prefer the liquid bubble baths.

IMG_6021

My free sample was an itty bitty slice of their Fresh Farmacy Facial Soap. I used this on my face and it was just ok. It didn’t dry my face out at all like regular soap does. So that was good. But, I think I need to use it a few more times though to really decide if I like it.

Lush is not a subscription box per se’ but on their website you can request to have the products you pick out sent to you on a monthly basis. I think a subscription box of this would be fun and something Lush should consider.  It is expensive to buy their full size products so more sample size ones would be nice. Stay tuned for more of my Lush reviews coming up as I discovered a Lush store in the mall during a recent trip to Indianapolis and I bought yet more of their products.

Have you tried Lush products? Which ones did you like?

BeautyDNA Subscription Box Review

BeautyDNA is a subscription box which sends you one full size beauty product a month that is custom selected for you based on your survey preferences. I liked that it is custom matched to your needs and preferences so I wanted to try it out. It costs $25 per month and this is what I received for my first month.

Avene Hydrating Cream

IMG_5997

I am extrmely happy with this. I needed a new face cream and this one is perfect. I had never heard of Avene before but it seems like a good product line and a very affordable brand. It was a little over the top in that it’s designed for extremely sensitive skin and my skin is more mildly sensitive. But it does hydrate really well and I very much so like it. I can’t wait to see what they send next month.

Bluum Subscription Box Review

IMG_5946

Bluum box is a subscription box for kids. Mine is geared toward my 26 month old girl. This month’s box had five items in it.

Slide & Surprise Numbers Book – I am always happy to get more books and we enjoyed reading this. She liked pulling the slides out and having her tell me the mumbers and objects were good practice.

4 pack Play-Doh – I love play-doh and I would’ve been more excited about this if I didn’t already have several cans.

Sippi Grips – This is an interesting idea. It’s a string type thing that you attach to a chair or carseat to keep a toy or sippy cup from falling on the floor or getting lost. Haven’t tried this yet. I think it would’ve been more useful a few months back.

Jack and Jill natural toothpaste – we were just running out of toothpaste for her so I was happy to see this. It has xylitol in it so it’s good for the teeth but is not harmful if swallowed. Hopefully she will like the flavor.

Klorane Dry Shampoo – I was just thinking the other day how I wished we had dry shampoo around. It says made in Paris so I’m excited to try this.

All in all a so-so box. It would have been better if the play-doh had been replaced with a toy but maybe other people were happy to get the play-doh. What did you get in your Bluum box?

Chocolate Tasting Club Review

IMG_5943

I didn’t know that I needed to cancel my subscription so I got another box of the Chocolate Tasting Club. I thought I was doing a one time trial. Oh well. I love chocolate so it didn’t go to waste. This box was similar to last month’s box in idea but had all new flavors. Some of them were really good like the Coconut Cherry one. But the ones with alcohol in them I don’t like. This box had two a Champagne Truffle and a Gin Truffle. The alcohol taste is VERY strong. My other favorites were the hazelnut ones. I think there were three. I would enjoy the Tasting Club more if I could choose which types of chocolates to have in it so I could get more of the kinds I like. Still this is a fun box. There were some flavor combinations that you don’t ordinarily see and it was such fun to have different ones to try.

Have you tried Chocolate Tasting Club? What did you think?

Total Beauty Mother’s Day Box

IMG_5912

The total beauty mother’s day box was on sale so I had to get one for myself. They list the contents on their site so you know ahead of time what you are getting.

IMG_5914

ME! bath Toasted Lime and Coconut Sugar Scrub – I’ve always liked ME! bath products but I haven’t used any in a long while so I was happy to get this. I like sugar scrubs and I liked the scent.

IMG_5916

Pulisse Hydra Balance Moisturizer – I needed a new moisturizer and I’ve never used Purlisse before so I thought I’s give it a try. I didn’t end up liking it. My skin is sensitive and didn’t react well to some ingredient in it. I need to figure out what that ingredient is so I can avoid it.

Neutrogena naturals lip balm – I have not tried this yet but lip balm is always useful.

IMG_5917

Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence – This is ok. It has a nice scent.

Alfaparf Illuminating Serum – this is to make your hair shiny but I haven’t used it yet. I keep forgetting.

IMG_5918

Me! Bath bath fizzy – These are fun but buy they sure don’t last long

$50 wine gift card to NakedWines.com – These are small batch individual growers in Napa Valley California. I have never heard of any of these wines or winemakers but it will be interesting to try out a couple.

Have you gotten any of the Total Beauty boxes? What did you think?
